Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to Receive Global Icon Award and Perform at MTV’s VMAs
Sean "Diddy" Combs, the renowned entrepreneur, executive, and founder of Bad Boy Records, is slated to be honored with the Global Icon Award at the 2023 VMAs hosted by MTV. The event will be broadcast live from New Jersey's Prudential Center on September 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Diddy, fresh off the release of his new album "The Love Album: Off the Grid," will also be performing at the VMAs, marking his first performance at the event since 2005.
Joining Diddy on stage will be a star-studded lineup of artists, including Doja Cat, Anitta, Lil Wayne, Kelsea Ballerini, Tomorrow X Together, Demi Lovato, Karol G, Måneskin, and Stray Kids.
Apart from receiving the prestigious Global Icon Award, Diddy has also been nominated for four other awards this year, recognizing his work on songs such as "Creepin" (Remix) and "Gotta Move On." His nominations include two for "Best Collaboration," as well as nods for Best Rap and Best R&B.
The Global Icon Award, originally part of MTV's Europe Music Awards, honors artists or bands who have achieved significant global success in music and beyond. Diddy has a history with the MTV Europe Music Awards, having hosted the event in 2002 in Barcelona, Spain.
Diddy's upcoming album, "The Love Album: Off the Grid," will be his first solo release since 2006's "Press Play." In recent months, he has released several hit singles, including "Gotta Move On," featuring Bryson Tiller, which received remixes from artists like Ashanti, Yung Miami, and Tory Lanez. He has also collaborated with PartyNextDoor on "Sex in the Porsche" and dropped "Act Bad" with the City Girls and Fabolous. Additionally, he released a remix of Metro Boomin's "Creepin'."
In an unexpected move on Labor Day, Diddy decided to reassign his Bad Boy publishing rights back to the artists and writers who helped build the label's success. This includes the Notorious B.I.G.'s estate, Faith Evans, Ma$e, the Lox, 112, and other creators. While specific details about the reassignment were not immediately available, the assets are reported to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
